Exclusive interview of Kenneth Cheng

Young Hong Kong rider Kenneth Cheng is proud to have the opportunity to fly the flag again for his home city at the Longines Hong Kong Masters next month.

Whilst last year's experience competing against the world's best riders was a little daunting at times, he has fond memories of the event.

"It was a great pleasure to be competing back in Hong Kong as it had been a number of years since the city had held a world class equestrian event," Cheng said.

"To have the home crowd on my side made it all very special."

The inaugural Longines Hong Kong Masters proved highly popular in 2013 with locals who had not been exposed much in the past to this type of high level show jumping competition.

"I was very impressed on the first day with the amount of spectators that showed up even when it was a working day in Hong Kong."

"On the final night the whole of AsiaWorld Expo was packed with enthusiasts and with Patrice Deleaveau making it a hatrick the crowd really got going."

Cheng will bring two horses to the 2014 Longines Hong Kong Masters - Jockey Club Caballo and Balou.

" I am still in the process of building my horses up for the event but I am hoping for the best and that they have a good show in Hong Kong."

"I had a lot of fun and felt like a star during the Longines Hong Kong Masters last year. For me it is a great pleasure to see so many supporters and friends that have been there for me during the last few years and being able to compete for them in front of their eyes means a lot."

The Longines Hong Kong Masters will take place from February 21-23.
