Swedish star Henrik Von Eckermann upstaged a top class field to win the biggest and most important competition of the 2014 Longines Hong Kong Masters, the $US700,000 Longines Grand Prix, today.

Riding 13-year-old mare Gotha, Von Eckermann was too good for his colleague and mentor Ludger Beerbaum who finished third and last year’s Longines Speed Challenge winner Katharina Offel who was the runner-up

At the official press conference after the event Von Eckermann was beaming with delight about the victory.

“The smile will stay for a while and I will enjoy this as much as possible because it might be a while before the next big win like this,” Von Eckermann said.

Ludger Beerbaum, who Von Eckermann works alongside his Riesenbeck stables in Germany, was proud of his colleague’s result.

“This is a great result for our team and I am so happy for Henrik, “ Beerbaum said.

Beerbaum also applauded the organisers of the Longines Hong Kong Masters, EEM World, for their efforts to put on such a high standard show.

“This has been an excellent show and the organisers should be congratulated for doing a really incredible job.“ “As riders we enjoy so much competing at this event and in such an amazing city.” “Everything has been managed so well and it is a real privilege to be here,” he added.

Longines Ambassador of Elegance Aaron Kwok attended the final day of competition and thoroughly enjoyed his experience at the second edition of the Longines Hong Kong Masters. “This is a wonderful event and I hope it is here to stay for the next two hundred years,” Kwok joked.

CEO of EEM World Christophe Ameeuw was very pleased with the results of this edition of the event and proudly announced the addition of a new leg of the Masters Grand Slam to be held in Los Angeles later this year.

This event will take place on September 25-28 whilst the 2015 edition of the Longines Hong Kong Masters will take place from February 12-15.
