On the Road to Hong Kong

SOME very important cargo is en route to Hong Kong for the 2014 Longines Hong Kong Masters.

Making this world class show jumping event happen involves many months of careful planning by organisers EEM World and now the huge logistical process is underway.

Nine giant shipping containers carrying vital supplies for the stars of the show - the horses - left Europe's shores last week.

A vessel named 'Cosco Glory' is currently on the high seas carrying containers storing hay, bedding for the horse's stables, obstacles, stages, trailers and protection materials.

It is scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong Harbour early next month in advance of the most precious cargo of all - the horses.

More than 60 of the world's best equine athletes will travel together on a specially chartered Emirates Boeing 777F plane.

Their flight will depart Europe on February 16 and make one fuel stop in Dubai before arriving in Hong Kong on the 17th.

One pro flying groom, a vet and seven rider grooms will be on board to accompany the horses on their long journey to the Orient.

Once the horses arrive at Hong Kong International Airport they will be loaded onto Hong Kong Jockey Club supplied trucks and driven to AsiaWorld-Expo which will be their temporary home (managed under quarantine regulations) until the end of the competition and their scheduled departure on February 24.
